Queen comes to Jamestown
Click for Readable HTML Version Queen comes to Jamestown by Bud Weiss Approximately around 4 pm on May the 3rd the Queen of England arrived in Jamestown Virginia to join the celebration of our 400th anniversary. She did not have to worry about filling up the gas tank with fuel, as she arrived in town in a carriage pulled by horses. Sounds like a great way we could cut our fuel cost in the U.S. by making our public officials do the same thing. Think that is funny, well they are your public servants you know. You are the ones’ that excel them to some kind of higher level, but in my mind they are servants. On Thursday there were not very many people out to greet the Queen because the secret service and probably ever state trope in Virginia had her surrounded and made most of the public uncomfortable. Nothing like having weird people watching your every move and making you feel that if you make the wrong move you are going to get jumped on. It only cost the state 11 million dollars to get her to visit, and I am not sure if that included the hundreds of gallons of fuel the police and secret service used to get here. At one of the local motels I must have seen at least a hundred police cars parked as they were inside being told what the procedure would be to guard here. It would seem to me that Jamestown would have gotten a bigger bang for its buck if they would have invited the remaining contestants of American Idol There would have been limited security and probably millions of people come to see their favorite Idol. Although it would have used more of our fuel and caused major traffic jams but the area would have gotten the tourism they had hope for. I am not really sure why someone would take off time from work, or use up their vacation time, or spend a lot of money with the high cost of fuel to drive to Jamestown to see her, or read speeches someone else wrote? The people in our government do the same thing because they have to write down the bull so they don’t forget it. She also went to Virginia Tech. where some guy went crazy and killed 33 people and wounded others, to give a speech and express her sadness for those who were lost. To some people this article might seem a little disrespectful to the Queen but I can not understand why we fought so hard to get our freedom from them, and then spend millions of dollars to come visit. They never pay Busch to go anywhere, in fact when he does go somewhere it cost the American tax payer millions he gives away. The Queen is suppose to stay with us for 6 days and then 2 days with the President In Washington, I will not be on the road when she decides to leave town because it will cost a fortune in gasoline to get anywhere between Williamsburg and Washington when they leave.. Well the Queen is off to the Kentucky Derby which was one of the main reasons she came over to the U.S. This has long been a dream of hers to attend one of these races and see the best race horses in the world compete. One of her hobbies is breading and raising thoroughbred horses and riding them, can you believe it at over 8o years old she still rides her horse once a week when she is at home. Most people don’t even trust their rocking chairs to ride at that age in this country. The bottom line, was it worth the 11 million that the government spent to have the Queen of England go on vacation here is the USA? I would have to say nay to that one. She really didn’t even stay two full days here, and then went elsewhere for diversion. With all the problems that the country is undergoing, like high fuel prices and trying to figure ways to save fuel, the immigration issue, and the so called war which will probably going to bankrupt this country shortly, we could have used it more wisely on problems that need to be address here in Jamestown.
