<h1>Being Rich- It Is All In Your Mind</h1> <p align=right>by Vince Dowd</p> <div align=justify>Being Rich- It Is All In Your Mind PART 1 After Eleven years of traveling around the world teaching wealth creation, I used to believe that wealth was something that you gained from outside yourself. I now know that wealth is something you create in your mind and expand to your external environment. This will be part one of Being Rich-It Is All In Your Mind. I want to share lessons I have learned on why many people do not create the Riches they seek. I would soon learn that there are natural laws that govern all in the universe. I would learn that my family and I used them wrong, but soon I would turn that around. George Clason who wrote “The Richest Man In Babylon” said, “Money is plentiful for those who understand the simple laws which govern its acquisition.” Growing up in a lower middle class neighborhood and seeing the financial stresses my single mom suffered made me desire greatly to be rich. When my dad left us, my mom had to take on the burden of raising 2 children, a house payment and all the debt. She had no education or specialized skill set, so she did what many do. She worked two jobs to make ends meet, cleaning houses in the day and bartending at night. I remember Christmas was always a challenge. The time of year that should be special was stressful for us. My mom would tell us, “I can’t get you what you want this year as the bills are tight.” Yet every Christmas we would get what we wanted and I felt guilty because I knew where that money came from, I knew bills went unpaid so my brother and I could have a good Christmas. In fact the lack of money controlled our lives. It began to dig deep into our emotions and money or the lack of it was an external element that was in control of our emotions. I remember my mom crying about every week due to the financial pressures on here, but she worked hard to insure we had a roof over our heads and food to eat. I made a decision when I was young that I would not be broke, I would be rich and I would be successful. I would not let the lack of money control my life or emotions. That was my creed! Now let me set the stage. It was not easy as I had no family around and grew up as a latch key kid who flunked kindergarten. I had little to no self-esteem, hands covered in warts and wore hand me down clothes. I was teased often for these things and did not feel I measured up to other kids. I always felt like a piece of a puzzle in the wrong box. I was diagnosed with all kinds of “problems”. I could not read well, wrote backwards, could not spell and could not speak certain letters. I always knew I was different than most of the other kids. The one thing I had is my drive and idealist attitude. I eventually pulled my school records and used the latest technology in Brain-Imaging to scan my brain. I met with a Neuro-Scientist who used PET scans to scan my brain in relaxed states and thinking states. I have been diagnosed with Dyslexia, Mood Disorders, and OCD along with other things, however by the time I learned all this I had already used it all as stairs to success. Now when I share those issues, many of you probably get a picture in your mind’s eye of who I am based on your understanding or perception of these issues or based on someone you know that has dealt with any of these. I would suggest you not allow your mind to create a picture as the chance is high it will be incorrect. I had tremendous odds against me, however I choose not to listen to the nay Sayers, the critics, the negative people who said, “Vince will never be able to do this or that!.” I instead listened to my inner voice, my drive and believed I had the capability to achieve more than others could believe. I will tell you that I was not the most positive person growing up because I was surrounded by negative and you become who you associate with. The unfortunate part is if members of your family are the negative ones, you have to do your best not to sink into the depth of it. When I was four years old my mom gave my father a choice. She said, “Mike, either choose alcohol or your family, either stay or leave.” My dad chose to leave for alcohol. The years after my mom’s stress got worse and she too became an alcoholic. I believe that alcohol is self-medication for many an illness of the mind. Many of the issues I was diagnosed with are hereditary and therefore with all compassion I understand why they drank so much. I also know that all these things are what made me who I am. I like to say it this way, It is the shit that makes the grass grow! There were years in my life when I was depressed and even a bit suicidal and perhaps at that point I did not know it would get better, but I kept on keeping on…. I will continue this story of my life in a few parts so you can see the obstacles that I faced and how I overcame them to gain wealth and happiness in my life.
