Accidents Caused by Negligence

Generally, negligence means recklessness or the lack of care of a person for the welfare of others.

A person, who has been careless or negligent and has caused injuries to others, may be held liable for injuries he caused resulting from his actions.

Common Cases of General Negligence

Here are some examples of negligence that may result to injury or death of an individual:

• Vehicular Accidents - Automobile accident is one of the most common demonstrations of a person’s negligence.

Drivers that are careless on the road often times cause accident that may cause injury or even the life of a person.

Vehicular accidents are mostly caused by human error:

• Lack of alertness

• Speeding

• Failure to observe signs and traffic lights on the road

• Lack of caution

• Accidents in Workplace - The employer must ensure the safety of his employees above all his other concerns.

An accident in construction sites is an example of a work-related accident.

• Animal attacks - Since animals cannot think rational, owners of domesticated or wild animals are accountable for the actions of their pets.

In some states, when the animal has done a heinous thing (e.g. brutally kill or attack) a person, it has to be killed and the owner would have to pay a certain amount to the families of the victims.

• Defects in products - Manufacturers of a defective product can be held liable for injuries sustained by its clients. Every manufacturer must make sure that his products are safe and efficient and qualifies under the standards set by the government.

• Slip and fall accidents - There are slips and fall accidents wherein the victim sustains superficial wounds but there are also victims who end up having broken bones and some even die because of it.

Owners of the premise where the accident took place are liable if it has been proven that he neglected to maintain the place that resulted to an accident.

• Medical malpractice - Patients that die from negligence of medical practitioners are examples of a case on negligence. Depending on the laws of a state, the practitioner can have his medical license revoked or he can even face jail time.

Preventing Negligence

Many rules are implemented to ensure that manufacturers would not produce substandard products that could cause a human life.

There are also laws that concern drunk driving or substance abuse that may cause harm to the person and to people around him.

Results of General Negligence

Depending on the situations, offenders are sometimes asked for financial compensation of the victims and pay penalty for their carelessness that resulted to an accident.

Different sanctions are posted on each state for the violators of this offense.

In cases of lawsuits, it is better to consult with an attorney to know the statute of limitations of the state you are in.

There are Los Angeles General Negligence Lawyers that could help the victims get just compensation for the harm they suffered.

It is important to exercise caution in every action because anything we do that is not proper may come to harm us, or people around us.
