Develop a Strong Source for Ideas

I know of many people who like to change up their business card on a regular basis. Some of them change it almost every other month it seems like to me. Given the wide number of options you now have for business card printing it isn’t hard to get yourself some very nice looking custom business cards whenever you want.

The major road block I’ve seen them run into is one for inspiration. Sure, there are a lot of different things you can do, but it isn’t always easy to remember all of those things. I personally always have trouble trying to think of something new and interesting to do with my business card. I’m just not that creative when it comes to stuff like that, but I do like the idea of having some custom business cards.

Sure, I know I could just hire someone else to hand it all for me. That is certainly a possibility but I kind of like the idea of handling it all myself. I want to be able to have that personal touch from knowing that I had a stronger say in what my business card is, but I still need to get my first inspiration.

The answer comes in the form of what I like to call the inspiration file.

Here’s how you form one for yourself.

I’m sure you’ve been to a fair share of tradeshows and seminars, and I’m sure at these same events you’ve walked away with all the business cards you could ever want. Among these are going to be basic business cards along with some good full color business cards and other kinds of custom ones.

After two or three years, if not less, you can get a very large number of these built up, and if you’re specifically looking to get them, it makes it even easier.

So what you do is when you go to these events ask everyone you can for their card. Walk away with as many as possible. Once it’s over look through all of those cards and find all of them that you really like the look of.

Now you take these cards and put them in your inspiration file. These are to help you figure out what you want to do with your card. The point here isn’t to copy their card exactly or anything like that. It isn’t really a custom business card anymore if you’ve just copied someone else.

But you can look at them for inspiration for you. Take the elements that you do like and alter them to suit you. After enough years you should have a very nice, large file to choose from. Now every time you want to change your card, look through your file and see what you can find. I’m sure you’ll get a few good ideas.
