What happened as soon as internet marketing started to become more and more prominent? People started wondering if the print market was going to be on the decline. Was this new form of marketing enough to replace the tried and true methods of poster printing, brochures or sending postcards through the mail?
New forms of marketing rarely if ever replace older forms, and you shouldn’t even consider looking at marketing in this way. Each method of marketing reaches a specific audience and delivers your message in a specific way that no other marketing can match, and this very reason is why you shouldn’t be quick to discount previous forms of marketing when new ones come along.
Do you know why people get poster printing done? A poster allows you to have a marketing presence in set locations where you can be sure that your name remains there for an extended period of time. No other type of marketing can do exactly what posters can and give you such a highly visible form of marketing for people to see.
Brochures provide people with a lot of details on various products that the customers can then take with them. Have you ever been looking into a company, was handed a brochure filled with information on their services, and decided to keep it with you? Maybe you went to multiple companies and got brochures from all of them so you could later compare them to each other. This is something brochures alone can accomplish, so why would you remove them from your marketing?
How many marketing pushes can have the same precision as postcards in getting your message directly into a person’s home? Can email spam really match up to the effectiveness of postcards? When all I have to do is delete an email I’m less likely to even notice what the email has to say, while a postcard makes me actually physically pick it up, giving me more time to look at what it has to say, and increasing the odds of me stopping to look further.
I could go on and on. Every type of marketing was made for a reason. The more options you have for your marketing the better your chances will be at drawing in the most customers. You should never cut yourself off from an effective form of marketing just because something else is coming out. Add to your marketing mix, but never remove anything from it.
Eventually you’ll reach a point where you could’ve used that other style, and if you were foolish enough to get rid of it you won’t be able to get the most from your marketing. Before even thinking about removing a form of marketing really ask yourself what this marketing can do, and why it was made popular in the first place.
