With craigslist, my tip is to set up a squeeze page (a page that collects the names and emails of your interested visitors), and promote THAT using craigslist ads. I truly don't recommend promoting affiliate links on there. besides, you know that no one's going to buy something the first time they visit a website. They have to feel comfortable with the site and the seller first, before they buy. So, with a squeeze page, you'll collect their email, and use a 7-day sequence of follow up emails to convince your visitors to buy the product, especially from YOUR link.
I personally promote this link on craigslist a lot under the financial section. http://www.tmharris.net/ondemand
This site an example of the type of website I refer ppl to with my craigslist ads. The autoresponder sequence I set up for this site gives people 3 weeks worth of follow up emails for a simple low-priced product. You can also do this with high-ticket items, too. But, make sure that the ad you post really TARGETS the individual you want to sign up on your squeeze page for "more information" or "free tips".
...and THAT's my tip on using Craigslist ads for profit.
