I've been 'dipping my toe' in the affiliate marketing pool on and off for a few years now. Sure, I've made a little cash: $100, $200, or even, occasionally, $500 in a single month. However, most months I'm lucky to break into the double digits, never mind the "thousands of dollars a day" that so many ebook authors promise. I tried eBay, ClickBank, Commission Junction, viral text ads, banner exchanges, 'paid to surf' companies. I searched everywhere for my "big break", but just couldn't find it.
I assumed I must be doing something wrong, but couldn't figure out what it was. So, I turned to the 'experts' and ending up spending more than $1,500 on various eBooks that were supposed to be 'easy to follow' and 'guaranteed' to make me rich almost overnight. Guess what? Not much changed. Sure, I picked up a few fresh tips here and there that bumped my sales a touch. But not a single ebook could be pointed to that had earned me back it's purchase price. Whether that purchase price was 'super special one day sale' price of only $25 or it was the more typical $50-$75. I even tried a couple of those $150-plus eBooks, thinking maybe they had the answer, but it was not to be.
If any of this sounds familiar then I highly suggest you take one more chance at the affiliate marketing game, but this time, follow Eric Rockefeller's Affiliates Undercover program. According to Mr. Rockefeller, ClickBank wouldn't even publish his book unless he "watered it down". I've been burned too many times by eBooks to trust everything one of its authors (or promoters) says in their sales pitch, but this is an intriguing concept.
If you're new to the concept of affiliate marketing, Affiliate Undercover still covers the basics: Scouting Out the Best “Pay for Profit” Opportunities, Viral Marketing, Reasons You Need a Separate Landing Page, etc. But the real power of this book comes into play when Mr. Rockefeller attacks the new Web 2.0 and social networking sites. He takes you by the hand and guides you through how you can use these sites to truly drive sales both to you and to the companies you work as affiliate for. Digg, MySpace, Squidoo, LiveJournal, and many, many more sites seem to have been created (unwittingly) for just this type of marketing.
While putting this system to work I've spent more time on social networking sites in a couple of weeks then I had in the years they've existed. I've noticed two things: 1) this is not "easy" money, though it is quickly becoming far more profitable, for me, then anything else I've ever tried. 2) There are still relatively few others out there doing similar things. This is a genuinely new system. Not just another rehash.
