I wish I had this plug-in widget when I first started to blog. I can still remember when I started my first blog and was so excited about adding the Google AdSense code into my blog. Now a bit more experienced, I look at this widget with even greater enthusiasm knowing how incredibly powerful it also can be used to manage multiple AdSense campaigns. This plug-in is built for all levels of Bloggers. It’s one of the few must have WordPress plug-in widget and again, it’s a dream come true.
The Shylock AdSense widget is easy to install and activate. After installation, from your Administration Options menu, under the Shylock AdSense option, you just simply insert the AdSense code into a dialog box for your blog posts or pages without modifying any WordPress templates. Plug n Play all the way! Next you have the ability to manage up to 10 different ad campaigns in your blog posts, with 9 different location arrangements. You also have the ability to show different ads for posts older than 1 day or any amount of days older.
Let’s take a look:
Shylock Options Menu - Set code
Insert up to 10 different ads in each of the Set code sections. Here you can input separate types of Google created AdSense ads by changing the Google ad unit type, ad format and the different color schemes to match your desired ad appearance. Press Update, at the bottom of the page, before changing to another ad to prevent loosing your newly created ad. To setup or change another ad campaign, click a different ad code number above the dialog box to switch between Set code screens. Also note the actual ad preview is displayed below. DO NOT CLICK ON THIS PREVIEW AD, it is active similar to those on your blog. After your have entered your AdSense ad codes move down to the options section.
Shylock Options Menu - General and Page options
Here you begin with the option of showing ads to Administrator. You then may also choose to exclude any particular post or page from displaying ads. To use the Exclude option you will need to go back to your Manage page option, in your admin area, and get the ID number of the posts or pages that you want to block ads from appearing. This may be appropriate to use for pages on your blog such as About, Contact or Advertise Here.
The Page option begins with the ad setup for your Front Page. You decide which ad code settings are to be used, the ad alignment and which additional posts (1-10) your front page ad setup will be displayed upon. You are able to choose multiple ad locations with combinations of different ads to be placed in your posts and where the ads appear. For example, using a combination of Alignment options you can pick different ad formats such as a Leader board ad placed on top, then a Skyscraper ad placed on the right side and a Banner ad placed on the bottom. Note that different types of AdSense ads require the use of proper ad placements to be effective. Also the Middle option requires 2 or more paragraphs to work properly. Keep in mind that Google will only allow you to display up to three different AdSense ads per page. Always save and preview your blog for your desired configuration. After you have setup your Front page ad settings you will want to continue with the setup of other pages on your blog.
Shylock Options Menu - Page options
This is a continuation of the above Page options with the exception of the Post Number option is missing. An additional nifty feature is located here that helps you manage your ad campaign used for older posts. This may seem kid of strange, but it can come in handy if you choose not to display ads in your new posts, keeping your regular visitors happy. Then follow up with a more aggressive monetized ad campaign for those search engine visitors. Note that the Older than x days options will not be applied until the blog post age is achieved. And if this option is left blank all previous options will be used on all posts.
Tips and Tricks:
This is where this widget gets really cool! AdSense ads are not the only items that this widget helps you place in your blog posts. Come on, say what? Yes, this super kewl widget can place anything into your blog posts. You can also insert YPN and CPM ads, custom banners or buttons, your favorite post box or anything else you want to present to your viewer’s attention.
