It’s June and no one is thinking about Christmas, but like everything soon it will be November and everyone will be thinking about Christmas. Because it’s June, you probably don’t remember last Christmas do you? Do you remember picking out a tree when it was 10 below zero? Do you remember vacuuming up needles every day. Do you remember having sap on your hands for a week? I didn’t think so.

Let’s face it, real Christmas trees are a pain in the mistletoe. So here’s a great idea: Plan now to get a Artificial Christmas Tree. Here’s why; they make sense.

There is a lot of propaganda about Fake Christmas trees put out by tree growers and I have to say it really misses a lot of key points. Their argument goes something like this. Fake trees have plastics in them that are not biodegradable so they are bad. Live Christmas Trees are Biodegradable so they are good. Christmas Trees are grown by farmers so that is good to. Fake Christmas Trees are made in factories so they are bad. This is a naïve way to look at things so I’ll go over each point.

Are Real Christmas Trees biodegradable? If these go into a compost heap the answer is yes they will eventually turn back to soil. The reality is that the majority go into landfills and never turn into soil. They just turn into big piles and those piles get bigger every year. In the typical life of an Artificial Christmas Tree, a “real” Christmas Tree buyer will have generated roughly a ½ ton of non-biodegradable waste. Compare that to 20-30 pounds of waste for the fake tree user. Most people use their fake tree for 15 years and there are some that use them longer.

Farmers vs. Factory Workers? In most countries, Factory Workers have a much higher standard of living then ag workers. In the US, tree farms are typical supplied with non-employee low wage workers. The work to manicure a Christmas Tree is tedious. The creation of a Christmas Tree also involves the use of hazardous chemicals that are tough on the planet and tough on the workers. The factories that most Fake Christmas Trees are made in are modern and the workers are paid fairly.

So this Christmas – take the hassle out of Christmas by buying a Artificial Christmas Tree. Oh and don’t forget a tree bag, it will make storage much easier.
