To say that Maryland's basketball recruiting efforts have been in turmoil over the past year would be an
understatement. After working tirelessly to secure several star recruits in the class of 2008, they began to lose those same recruits just as quickly.
A few months later, and Gary Williams has managed to cobble together a 2008 class, but already is working on the class of 2009. Several other ACC schools have lined up their 2009 recruits already, and now the Terps are on the board with a commitment from Brooklyn power forward James Padgett, a 6-8 pure post player that should see significant minutes for Maryland once he arrives on campus.
A tough inside rebounder with a nose for getting rebounds in traffic, Padgett's play fits Gary Williams' style and should be an almost immediate asset. Padgett chose Maryland after also seriously considering Pitt.
With their 2009 basketball recruiting outlook taking a turn for the better, Maryland fans are breathing easier.
