Create your Dream Job!

"People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don’t believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and if they can’t find them, make them." -– George Bernard Shaw

Some years ago I was invited to a large wedding of a friends son on the beautiful island of Cyprus. It was a lucky day for me because I learned a lesson that I should never forget.

My hosts were generous and seated me between 2 really georgeous young man. I couldn’t believe my luck and struck up an enthusiastic conversation with them. Both were studying in the United States. The older one, I remember, was at Harvard University.

During the course of the day we discussed many topics and one of them touched their future. They both wanted to return to Cypress as soon as they had finished their education. I asked them what they wanted to do after their return and they told me about their dream jobs.

It was astounding how clear they were about their future but from my knowledge of Cypress– and I had been living there for nearly 2 years – I could not imagine there being such an opportunity. So I asked what they would do if they did not find that dream job.

The older one looked at me as if he was wondering about my intelligence all of a sudden and said with absolute confidence: "If it does not exist, we will create it!"

Wow, what a statement! I was amazed and deeply impressed because he was so sure of what he wanted and I have no doubt that by now he has created it.

For me this moment was a major breakthrough. Until that day this kind of stuff was pure theory that I had read about in many publications but all of a sudden I realized there are people out there doing just that. And by accepting that possibility I looked around me and saw more and more people creating their dreams and turning them into realities. This is no theory! If you know what you want and you want it bad enough, you will do anything it takes to actually get it – even if it means creating it first.

Life isn't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.- George Bernard Shaw

Jim Rohn says: "If the Why is strong enough, the how becomes easy."

What is your WHY?
What is your big dream?
What is your big goal in life?

"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams". - Eleanor Roosevelt

"So many of our dreams at first seem impossible, then they seem improbable, and then, when we summon the will, they become inevitable". - Christopher Reeve

What are you doing to make your dreams come true?

"Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle." – Abraham Lincoln

Are you the one that is waiting or the one that is hustling?

Just a couple of weeks ago I gave a lecture on exactly this topic at the European Toastmasters Conference in Amsterdam and afterwards dozens of people came to me to tell me that I had put "possibility thinking" back into their lives. That suddenly they started to remember their big dreams and wondered if maybe they could make them come true. There was a flicker of real hope there and in the back of their mind the small voice that suggested "You can do it - if only you do".

You too can do it - if only you do! Do yourself a faour and get your dreams back.

That is what I do with my clients all the time and to see this "awakening" is what I love so much about my work. There is nothing more awarding than helping other people become happier and more successful and closer to what it is they really want in life.

Try it out – you will love it too!
