In 2002 I retired in to poverty and I did not like it one bit.
So the advice I want to get to the up and coming generation is how to avoid this problem.
First get a sheet of paper and list every income you have. Total it for the year.
Second write out every bill you have including income taxes, land taxes, drivers lic., car and house insurance and total all that out for the year.
Now ask yourself “If I should drive out the driveway and get slammed by some drunk and I become a paraplegic. How will I live and take care of my family?” I have seen this happen!!
Now go and find out how much ss, stock and bonds or mutual funds are going to pay me when I reach 65 or if I should get hurt badly right now. What would I or my family do?
You will be surprised that you are in trouble.
I found myself in a bad spot and I refused to accept poverty in any form because I had my own business. So I did what I said above and found that I needed to stay working and I had a problem. I did not like the idea of doing upholstery when I got old so I started my own anti poverty campaign in the form of helping others to avoid the same problem. And do it with my own hours, not carrying and thing heavy and make enough money that I could live in the manor I was accustomed to.
I do it as a part time and full time occupation depending on if I have upholstery to do or not.
