Self confidence is an emotional and psychological state which responds to an individual's need for recognition and self-acceptance. It is one of the oldest and most studied concepts in psychology. It describes a good but nonetheless proper perception somebody has of himself or herself and of his or her abilities. Thus, self-confident people frequently have a better knowledge of what they can achieve and are more apt to succeed in their projects. They will also more readily admit and understand their mistakes.
Contrarily, a lack of confidence can deter you from believing what you do and decide will in the end turn out as you had intended. It can hence interfere with the development of executive aptitudes, strategic and managerial abilities all of which are essential and required skills in today's business world. The pre-occupation with other people's judgment of your work may also cause you to become excessively self-critical, which is something that will distract you from assignments you would have otherwise been perfectly able to do.
Low self confidence will also affect your social life, as individuals with a low level of self confidence are more likely to remain in their "comfort zone" and are scared of being rejected. This is called social phobia and has a high level of co-morbidity with low self confidence, but also other psychological conditions such as depression. People with low self confidence are scared of being judged by others and will avoid meeting new people, which can in turn lead to isolation and even less self confidence. Low self confidence is a vicious cycle that is hard to break.
On the other hand, because they believe in their own abilities, self-confident people can do what they feel is right and do not expect the approval of their peers. They are also able to inspire confidence: your friends, relatives, boss, employees or customers will be more likely to trust you or what you are saying when you appear self-confident.
Numerous experiences can cause low self confidence. New research indicates that education has a critical impact on the development of the self confidence of children. Bodily and psychological abuses in childhood are for example the worse for a person's self confidence, along with family conflicts or divorce. Overprotective parents can also be a reason for a child's social phobia and discourage the independence necessary to build self confidence. Failures and successes, for example at school or in one's professional life, also play a decisive role: failing a class or losing a job are some of the several experiences that will have a negative impact your self confidence.
It is nonetheless possible to overcome those bad experiences and improve confidence. The first step to develop self confidence is to learn to know yourself and what your strengths are. Recognizing that you cannot be perfect and cannot be good in everything you do will help you gain self confidence. Accepting yourself as you are is the key to gaining self confidence. But improving self confidence also requires that you start taking risks and giving yourself credit for your achievements. This is very simple advice which will help you develop self confidence. You may also find a great number of books which will claim they can help you build self confidence, but many of them are not reliable.
Many people suffer from low self confidence or are only capable of gaining self confidence in one or some areas of their lives because they constantly try to get other people's approval and are afraid that they could fail. Many factors, for example childhood traumas, can explain why certain people cannot have the wholesome life of a self confident individual. Those persons also don't always know how to gain self confidence. But improving self confidence can now readily and effectively be done thanks to hypnosis and NLP.
As we have seen social phobia and low self confidence can be caused by traumas or unconscious fears which are sometimes hard to overcome through self persuasion only. Confidence hypnosis and NLP by contrast can reach the unconscious part of our mind and modify belief systems to boost self confidence. They are powerful tools that will help you address your fears and trust yourself to develop self confidence.
Self Hypnosis for building confidence has been in use for a few decades and has shown significant results in building self confidence. Once in a hypnotic state, accessing unconscious thoughts is a lot easier and, through hypnotic suggestion, it is possible to replace your negative thought patterns with positive ones to boost your confidence.
