Very few is known about Fidel Castro's family. In Cuba, unlike most communist countries a 'cult of the leader' was never promoted. In fact Castro fought what we may call a reverse cult of the leader; his regime promoted dead and burred revolutionary heroes such as Che Guevera and Camilo Cienfuegos on everything from statues to pendants sold to foreigners. Though his might is unchallenged, and quotations from his speeches were often fast adopted as national slogans, the Cuban mass media is strictly tabooed from reporting on leader's personal life. Castro says this is for security.
There can be found several sources that seemed not to agree on Castro's immediate family but some of them said Castro has 6 sons and only 1 wife. His wife’s name is Dalia Soto del Valle and his boys are named: Fidelito, Angel, Antonio, Alejandro, Alexis and Alex. Fiedel is said to have had several adulteries during his reign but that seem of little importance to Castro. Nobody in his family except Fidel's brothers Raul and Ramon and his eldest son, Fidelito, has jobs or any political power.
Old ruler and his family live modestly taking into account the power Castro holds. They do not possess large castles or legions of sports cars. In fact none of Fiedel's children even owns a car. This illustrates dictator's belief in communism.
Castro began as a law student at the University of Havana. He then fought for a seat in the Parliament in 1952. His ideas for obtaining a parliamentary seat, however, were ruined when General Fulgencio Batista over-threw the government. Castro tried to protest legally in courts that Batista had violated the constitution but when he was rejected Castro launched an onslaught against the millitary at Moncada Barracks on July 26th, 1953. He was arrested and sentenced to 15 years. He spent in jail only 2. Then he traveled to Mexico where he became a founder of revolutionary movement. On December 2, 1956 he intruded the north coast of Oriente district with his brother Raul, Che Guevera and some other revolutionaries; some of them were Marxists but there also were simply liberals fighting against of oppression of the peasants. On December 2nd 1961 Castro officially declared himself a Marxist.
