Antoni Gaudi’s influence
Barcelona is known to be the heart of Gaudí’s influence. All over the city you could find one of his amazing works of art.
From the Park Güell to the Palau Güell, passing by La Pedrera, Gaudí’s really changed the landscape of Barcelona. But his masterpiece still stays the must-see Sagrada Familia to which he dedicated most part of his life and that is still unfinished.
Still alive, his work has been criticized a lot because of his futurist vision of art but today his talent and genius are recognized by the entire world. He has been supported by one man, the rich industrialist Eusebi Güell.
He especially designed in the gothic architecture style but then he developed his own distinct style which was more scriptural.
Throughout his life, Antoni Gaudí tried to incorporate to his work what he learned about nature’s angles and curves, hyperboloids, paraboloids…
Some of his works:
Park Güell
This wonderful park is a garden situated in the higher lands of Barcelona, near from Tibidabo. It has been built between 1900 and 1914 but inaugurated in 1922 for the public.
Once again, this master-work reflects the studies that Gaudí made from the Nature. The salamander, situated in the vestibule, became the emblem of the garden and it symbolizes the fire. Some could interpret it as a Dragon, the mythological Python from the Delphic temple. The Park became one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites Works.
La Pedrera
Built between 1906 and 1910, la Pedrera becomes one of the main original houses of Gaudí and of the architectural history. This house mixes undulating stones forgetting any presence of iron and straight lines. The idea was, once again, imitating forms that remember vegetal. The building was recognized by UNESCO as "World Heritage" in 1984.
Sagrada Familia
Undoubtedly, the Sagrada Familia is one of the most attractive constructions of Barcelona. It began in 1882 and still continues today.
The father of this masterpiece is no one else than the famous Antoni Gaudí (1852-1926). He passed forty years on the project, devoting his fifteen life last years entirely to the project. And it is scheduled to be completed in 2026.
The Sagrada Familia epitomizes the Christian symbolism. Every aspect has been thinking in the inimitable Gaudí’s design. What strikes the most is its spindle-shaped tower. Every piece of this must-see monument has a religious signification: the geometric forms, the façades, the hyperboloid structure…
Just come and see by yourself those wonders of Barcelona! Book a hotel near to the beach or an apartment in the centre for two days off or a longer stay.
