Peru for the Spiritual Seeker: 5 tips for a mystical adventure

Visiting Machu Picchu or other spiritual power spots in Peru is the dream of a lifetime for many. For those like me, it's also a calling. So, it's even more important to choose the right tour or adventure when you travel to Peru. To help you avoid disappointment on such an important journey, here are 5 tips for choosing the right trip and making your Peru adventure everything you imagined.
1. Decide if you're going on a Peru vacation or a spiritual journey
If a healing or spiritual experience is what you want, the typical Peru or Machu Picchu vacation package may not suffice. I've learned that a tour offering spiritual activities is not the same as one that focuses on the spiritual journey. Go with a group whose goals for the trip align with your own.
2. Make sure the one thing you want most is on the itinerary
You may not be able to "do it all" in a single trip but, Peru is a long way to travel and not have the one experience you really wanted. Before signing up with a group, check the itinerary. If your dream is to meditate on Machu Picchu or fly over the Nazca Lines, make sure it's on the list.
3. Find out how many people are going on the trip
Size does matter. The Peru experience can become impersonal if there are too many travelers. And sometimes, a large tour indicates that profit is the priority rather than purpose. Thirty or fewer travelers is ideal for making intimate spiritual connections with your traveling companionsand guides.
4. Ask about the "quality time" you will spend doing what's important to you
Well-written marketing copy can make any tour sound terrific. If you're excited because the package description says you'll work with a shaman, ask what you'll be doing with the shaman and for how long. Only you can decide what counts as "quality time". But don't be afraid to ask. You're entitled to have the time of your life in Peru!
5. Spend the right amount of time in Peru
Even if you know you'll visit Peru again, chances are there'll be a few years between trips. So, don't sell yourself short. Give yourself enough time to enjoy it. Three to seven days go by fast. A ten- to fourteen-day trip (longer if possible) is ideal for soaking up the culture and experiencing the little things you'd skip on a shorter trip.
Follow these tips when choosing a group to travel with to Peru. It will make a huge difference. Whether you want to see Machu Picchu, visit sacred temples, hike the Andes, or have a mystical experience, your journey to Peru should be everything you dreamed and more.
