While vacationing at Deer Valley there are so many things to do, but don't leave without visiting Utah Olympic Park. It is located just five miles from the Deer Valley ski resort; this massive park was home to the 2002 Winter Olympic bobsled, luge, skeleton, and some ski jumping events. Even though the Olympics are over, this park still offers great fun for the entire family whether it's winter or summer. Make sure you schedule this in on your Deer Valley vacation itinerary. Utah Olympic Park is in a attractive spot only a couple minutes from Deer Valley and provides something for people of all ages. During the winter, individuals who are willing to pay the price can take The Comet down the bobsled track used during the Olympics. This intense bobsled ride goes up to 80 miles per hour and applies 5Gs on the riders. Once helmet-clad you go down the track with 2 friends and a driver, achieving the three-mile distance in under one minute. This is not for the weak, but it is an amazing experience for the courageous soul. During the summer, The Comet is equipped with wheels which gives it the ability to travel down a concrete track. The ride is not quite as difficult but it's fun and less expensive. Other rides that are open for the adventurous summer visitor include 2 zip lines that allow you to zip above the scenery at speeds up to 50 miles per hour and the Quicksilver alpine slide. This slide is a fairly new addition to the park and offers fun and entertainment for kids of all ages although the younger ones must be accompanied by an adult. For those who don't feel a need for speed, there are plenty of other things to do that do not involve a harness. Only a few steps from the parking area is the Joe Quinney Winter Sports Center inside of which are two museums. One gives tourists a nostalgic look at ski history and the 2002 Olympic Museum showcases memorabilia from the olympic games. Guests can also take a guided or self-guided tour of this park to view all of the facilities. Other than the bobsled track, there are 6 awesome Nordic ski jumps and other jumps for freestyle aerials. In the summer months you can see freestyle aerialists practicing their tricks and flips as they hurtle off a ski jump and land in a 750,000-gallon-pool. This pool is used in the summer to allow freestyle jumpers to improve their skiing tricks. Whether you desire to experience a piece of Olympic history, winding down the bobsled track at incredible speeds, or merely enjoying the fine scenery; Utah Olympic Park has something for everyone. Package deals can be obtained for individuals interested in participating in a mixture of offered activities.
