Beautiful seaside holiday desitnation

If you are looking for an all round good seaside holiday you should take a trip to Wells-next-the-sea. This is a thriving seaside town with many facilities including places to eat, amusemnt arcade and lots of lovely gift shops. Wells-next-the-sea, which is located in Norfolk, was a major port for the area in the 16th century and some of the old buildings can stil be found down the little back streets. The Granary and loading gantry located on the quay were built in 1903. This particular building has now been turned into luxury flats.

The name town got it's name "Wells" from the many spring wells in the local area. During the 1800's this was changed to Wells-next-the-sea in order for travelling people to distinguish between towns, it was chosen offically as the towns name in 1956 by the Wells Urban District Council.

Wells is a beautiful town with long sweeping beaches lined by pine woodland, The Pinewoods, located just a short walk from Wells beach is a well cared for and much used caravan site. There is a small railway which carries passengers from the holiday park to Wells Harbour. Along the harbour there are small fishing boats and in the summer children fish for crabs.

There is a large playground and playing field located near to Wells Town Football Club, the football pitch also doubles as a site for car boots, fetes and carnivals during the summer months. The main street in Wells-next-the-sea is Staithe Street with lots of little shops including a newsagents, butchery, bakery, pet shop, electrical store, gift shops galore and right at the end is Leftly's, a mini-market with all the items possibly needed for a stay in the town. The Butlins, a small tree-lined park with surrounded by fine Georgian houses and quiet pubs and restaurants.

Other towns and villages near to Wells, Norfolk include Fakenham which has more facilities if require such as bowling alley, cinema and supermarkets, Walsingham - which is linked to Well via a Light railway system, Holkham Estate (Hall, Bygones and park) - home to the Coke family is open to the public and just a mile from Wells-next-the-sea itself, Burnham Thorpe - birth place of Lord Nelson and Burnham Market - another popular holiday destinations (and one also popular with the rich and famous).
