At Deer Valley there are so many things to do, but don't leave without visiting Utah Olympic Park. Located just five miles from the Deer Valley ski area; this huge complex was where many of the 2002 Winter events took place. While the Olympics are long gone, this park still offers great fun and entertainment for the whole family both winter and summer. Be sure to schedule this in on your Deer Valley vacation itinerary. The park is in a gorgeous location only a couple minutes away from Deer Valley and has something for everyone. In the winter, individuals who are ready to pay the price can take The Comet on the bobsled track used during the Olympics. This aggressive bobsled ride can get up to 80 miles per hour and applies 5Gs on the athletes. You travel down the track with two friends and a driver, complete the three-mile distance in less than one minute. This is not for the faint of heart, but it's an exhilarating experience for the daring soul. In the summer, The Comet is outfitted with wheels which gives it the ability to travel down a concrete track. The ride isn't as extreme but it's fun and less expensive. Other rides that are open for the daring summer visitor include two zip lines that allow you to zip above the scenery at up to fifty miles per hour and the Quicksilver alpine slide. The alpine slide is pretty new to the park and offers fun for kids as young as three accompanied by an adult. For those who feel no need for speed, there are plenty of things to do that dont require a seat belt or a harness. Located just a few paces away from the parking lot is the Joe Quinney Winter Sports Center inside of which are two museums. One gives tourists a nostalgic view of ski history and the 2002 Olympic Museum showcases memorabilia from the games. Visitors are also able to take a guided or self-guided tour of the park to see all of the facilities. Other than the bobsled track, there are 6 Nordic ski jumps and jumps for freestyle aerials. In the summer months you can watch freestyle aerialists practicing their tricks and flips as they hurtle off a ski jump and land in a 750,000-gallon-pool. The practice pool is used during the summer to permit freestyle jumpers to perfect their tricks. Whether you are interested in experiencing a part of Olympic history, winding down the bobsled track at rapid speeds, or merely enjoying the gorgeous scenery; this park has something to offer everyone. Package deals can be purchased for those who desire to participate in a combination of offered activities.
