Utrecht is the number four city of Holland and is the capital of the province that is also called Utrecht. Utrecht is also one of the biggest cities of the area that is called the Randstad and has 610.000 inhabitants. The city has the biggest universitie of Holland and the mainoffice of the Dutch railway company is located here. But Utrecht is most famous for a place called the Jaarbeurs Utrecht. Where I have been many times. In this place you can visit several shows, events and congresses. The old catholic church is located in Utrecht and has its own archbishop. Utrecht is also considered as one of the oldest cities in Holland with the one of the richest history. The Domtower is 112 meteres high and is de symbol of Utrecht and the biggest church in Holland. Utrecht owes his nickname to this tower, because Utrecht is also called Domtown. The city is founded in 47 after Christ, the Domsquare was a Roman base then. This was a fortress and was used as a defense for the northern borders of the Roman empire. After the Romans left the Friez and the Franks batteled for this fortress. In 1122 Utrecht got his city rights by the bishop and the citizens could now build a wall around the city. Utrecht has always been ahead of the rest of Holland because it is one of the first cities that have build there houses from stone and that is because Utrecht has always been a wealthy city. In the Medieval Utrecht was the biggest city of Holland and the most important cultural centre of the northern Netherlands.
Utrecht is also very famous because of its big roll in the Dutch painting art in the 16th and 17th century. And gave home to a lot of famous painters like Scorel, Wtewael, Bloemaert, Baburen and Baptist. A lot of examples of there work can be found it the central Museum of Utrecht.
There are many churches in Utrecht like the Pieterchurch, the Janschurch, the Buurchurch, the Buurchurch, the Geertechurch, the Lutherchurch and the Willibrordchurch. It is also nice to visit the main buildings from the Dutch railway company. The first building is build in 1870 and the other building is build in 1893. The inkpot is another old buiding of the Dutch railway company and that one is build in 1918 and since 2003 Prorail is also located here. You can also visit the fortresses as a part of the new Holland waterline.
Utrecht is also great for shopping and has several great mesuams like the national museum, the Central museum, the Money museum and many more. Utrecht is hands down one of the most beautiful places in Holland. It is also very easy to travel to in Holland because of its location in the Centre of Holland. Utrecht also has the most beautiful railway station in Holland that is connected to a big shopping mall.
