Research Pet Friendly Hotels

Sometimes you just don't want to leave your pet alone when you go on vacation. It may be that you're going on an extended trip, or that you plan to be taking an outdoor vacation where having your dog along would be perfect, but whatever the reason, you'll need to search for pet friendly hotels. Finding pet friendly hotels is wonderful for the pet owner, but you will also want to know how to take care of your pet while there, so you can ensure that you'll be allowed to continue to stay at these pet friendly hotels.

Research Before Your Trip

It should go without saying that you want to know where pet friendly hotels are located before you even set out on your trip. Check Internet travel sites for tips on finding pet friendly hotels or even search out message boards for pet lovers to find out what their favorite pet friendly hotels are. But the most important thing to do when getting ready for your trip is to call the hotel beforehand. Remember that hotel policies can change, so you want to have confirmation before you go that your hotel will let Rover along.

The Stay

Keep in mind that just because some hotels are pet friendly that they'll simply let your pet in the room as a guest. There are likely to be extra costs in pet and security deposits. And even the friendliest of hotels will frown upon you if your pet becomes a problem. There are ways to ease this problem, including bringing the pet blankets from home to sleep on so it has something familiar close by and by giving your pet a lot of attention while there. And remember to keep an eye on your pet when housekeeping is cleaning the house. Leash your pet or put it in a carrier while the beds are being changed.

Know Your Pet

One of the most important things when traveling is to be able to make sure your pet is able to travel at all. If your canine or feline friend has problems just on short car rides or has behavior problems in unfamiliar environments, take them to the ultimate of pet friendly hotels: your local boarding kennel. Your pet will be happier and safer in a kennel tended by professionals than stuck in a small hotel room while your family is on a sightseeing tour. By remembering to evaluate your pet and the hotel you're going to stay in, though, should you decide to travel with your pet, you'll find a number of pet friendly hotels that will be happy to house you and your furry friend.
