So what is a blog (it sounds messy)?

The other day, I was channel surfing when I came across President Bush at the podium addressing the press. It was lunch so I was stuffing my face with salad (its torture but I hear it’s healthy). I couldn’t really hear the T.V. because of my crunchy lunch, but I did catch a phrase President Bush made. He said, “…we have learned from an Islamic extremenist blog…” BLOG? Could it be that President (or his speech writer) has caught on to the concept of blogging? So what is a blog? Do I have one? Should I go see a specialist to have a biopsy?

A blog (short for weblog) is an online log of thoughts, statements or announcements listed in chronological order. For some, it’s a personal diary of dreams & ideas. For others, it’s their own public pulpit where their ideals & values are written in hopes of sparking change.

Anyone can have a blog by signing up for free on many online blogging services. The sites are very easy to use. You can type text, upload photos and even link to other sites you like. Sound complicated? It’s not. If you have ever sent an email or typed a letter on a pc, then you will have no problem launching out into the blogging world. http://www.brumbelowgroup.com

Blogs can be a great place to get information and give information about anything. Notice the key word – anything. Blogs can sometimes contain explicit and graphic content so be careful what your kids are browsing through. So do you need a blog? Well, that depends. Are you comfortable with sharing information with the world on the Internet? I don’t mean to discourage you from blogging. I would love to say, “Everybody’s doing it so why aren’t you?”, but in this day there are many things to consider before you begin sharing any of your life online. Think about it… If I want to convince someone to do something or know the best way to take something from them, it’s valuable for me to know as much about that person as possible. What a better way to learn about someone than reading their journal. Now imagine someone learning about where you work, what your kids names are and where they go to school. What time you come home and what car you drive. Although this information is boring for most of us – to the thief, it’s a roadmap to success. Bottom line, putting your personal information online for everyone to read it is dangerous.

With all this being said, Blogging still has great value. Wouldn’t it be great to let Uncle Vinny know how the kids are doing while he’s retired and living at the beach? Personally, I’d suggest frequent visits to the beach, but I suppose a blog of family happenings and photos would keep Uncle Vinny in the loop. So what should you do? Well, some blog site come with an option to password protect access to them. This way, you can allow only those that you want to view your blog. I hope you leave this artcle cautious and curious.
